“Apparently in the mass society the only individual left is the artist,” said Hannah Arendt in a context as distorted as the contemporary one, in which every day the world is animated by tensions and chaos in a sort of collective disorientation that involves the individuals, the artists seem the only ones to want to suggest authentic, sensitive alternatives, with narratives based on alternative value systems. Almost an artistic position to express a resistance to the false illusions that animate mass society. The artist therefore has the power and responsibility to send his messages on human perspectives, creating new connections between different fields and experiences and providing new interpretations of the complexity of human reality.
From this reflection the exhibition Inside the drawing begins, at the Castiglia di Saluzzo from 11 October to 1 December exhibits about 250 drawings by 33 artists working in the international field under the curatorship of the art critic and historian Lorand Hegyi.
The set of works suggests a strong belief in the ethical character and mission that art implies: transmitting visual metaphors about human existence, through a strong expressive language that strengthens, emphasizes and emphasizes the emotional and human nature of art. In fact, as the curator Lorand Hegyi says, “the commitment of the contemporary artist to find an authentic, sincere, empathic and sensitive narrative is manifested with particular emphasis in the drawing, where a radical fantasy and a liberating, subversive imagination evoke new connections and perspectives between different dimensions of human experience. ”
The exhibition does not want to have the intention of creating a formal and arbitrary homogeneity, but manifests the rich and complex diversity of the language of contemporary design. In our disturbing era, artists seek the credibility of a new narrative based on the anthropological experience, with an inner freedom and with a sovereignty of his profound vision without compromises.
To bring this message, the curator wanted to call witnesses who work in different realities between Europe (Italy, France, Austria, Hungary, Germany, Romania, Albania, Slovakia) and Israel, Russia, USA, Chile, Cameroon and China. Italy is represented from south to north with a particular attention to the New Roman School, a reality protagonist of the Italian art of the last decades that since the end of the seventies have marked a general tendency to revisit the heritage of mannerism.
A tribute will be paid to a great protagonist of contemporary art who has influenced entire generations of artists since the 1960s. This is Hermann Nitsch, the undisputed master of Viennese Actionism who has redefined the narrative power of drawing. An entire room of the exhibition space of Castiglia will be dedicated to him in which 2 major significant works will be exhibited as regards the expression of the design.
Inside the design is held at Castiglia di Saluzzo, an ancient heart of the Marquisate’s power with an almost thousand-year history, which after being abandoned and transformed into a prison, has now become the site of cultural activities of the territory.
